  • 26.5cm., 10 1/2 in. high
wearing fur-trimmed hat and coat, over a pale yellow uniform, with pink saddle cloth, the mount supported on a tree trunk mound base applied with flowers and foliage, blue crossed swords mark

Condition

Some areas of restorations which are old and which have discoloured, and would need refreshing. Restored to the tail in two places. Restored through both hind legs, the leg to the back of the group restored in two places and restored to the top of the foreleg at the front of the base, small chip to the pink cloth on his pistol holster and small section of the saddle cloth to the back of the group cracked through and restored. Some scattered chipping to the foliage on the base, the green enamel has slightly mis-fired.

Jahrhundert, Berlin, 1935, no. 232 for a white version of this model from the collection of the Kunstgewerbemuseum, Hamburg.  The same model is also illustrated in the later edition Albiker, C.,  Die Meissner Porzellantiere im 18. Jahrhundert, Berlin, 1959, p. 26, no. 242 where the author refers to the detailed list of figures prepared form Markgrafen Karl on 2nd May 1761.  This listing is discussed in some detail by Sponsel, J. L., Kabinettstücke der Meissner Porzellan-Manufaktur von Johann Joachim Kändler, Leipzig, 1900, pp. 197-8 where the author lists the models from the earlier production of the factory including the entry "Soldaten: ein Husar zu Pferde, grosse Sorte, 11½ Zoll hoch".  A smaller related group is illustrated Rücket, R., Meissener Porzellan 1710-1810, Munich, 1966, p. 180, no. 969, pl. 235, the author refers to a large and small version of this model.
