In this watercolour, Schwabe takes another look at one recurrent theme in his oeuvre : the stairs of life. The girl’s face seems inspired by the artist’s daughter, Charlotte (1891-1979). From 1907, Schwabe signs Schwab, sometimes preceded by the initial O, from the first name of his second partner and then wife, Ombra d’Ornhjelm.
