After Doré's trip to Scotland in 1873, where he is enthusiastic about the impressive beauty of Nature, landscapes, often painted in watercolour, become numerous in his œuvre. Landscape and religious subjects become his main sources of inspiration. Our watercolour, very Romantic , shows two men sitting in the middle of big rocks and fallen trees. They seem tiny compared with the size of the trees above them.
