This is the preparatory sketch of Charles Freer Andrews in a prayer position by Nandalal Bose. The final sketch is in the collection of the National Gallery of Modern Art, New Delhi. Andrews (1871 - 1940) was a Christian missionary, educator and social reformer in India, where he became a close friend of both Mahatma Gandhi and poet and philosopher Rabindranath Tagore. He lived in India from 1904 until his demise in 1940.
