The canvas is not lined. Examination under UV light reveals spots of retouching, the three main ones associated with patches on the reverse, located to the women's hair, to the women's proper right elbow and towards the centre of the composition. There are some additional spots of retouching in places, notably along the extreme edges (probably related to frame rubbing) and towards the center part of the right edge, some of which related to hole repair. There are a few minor lines of craquelure most predominately to the sea. There is some frame rubbing along the extreme edges associated with pigment losses and tiny dents and vertical stretcher bar marks. This work is in fairly good condition.
