The present work was previously in the collection of Mr. & Mrs. Gustaf Söderlund, prominent Swedish collectors who amassed works by Matisse, Léger, Renoir and Chagall, among others. Gustaf Söderlund was a successful banker and served as director of the Scandinavian Bank for many years (see fig. 1).
