Condition

The work is still stretched on its original stretcher. There are no reinforcements on the reverse. The paint layer seems to be clean. It is not shiny but it may have been lightly varnished. The paint layer is stable. Although the paint layer is thin in some areas, it is not abraded. There is one small loss in the lower center about 1 inch from the bottom edge. The condition is very good overall, and the work can be hung as is. (This condition report has been provided courtesy of Simon Parkes Art Conservation, Inc.)
In response to your inquiry, we are pleased to provide you with a general report of the condition of the property described above. Since we are not professional conservators or restorers, we urge you to consult with a restorer or conservator of your choice who will be better able to provide a detailed, professional report. "The anthropomorphic and biomorphic elements in Matta's dreamy landscapes unfold, forming sensorial sanctuaries before exploding into complete universes. This cosmos grows from the earth and the plants. These primary beings and places reappear throughout his work like erotic metaphors of a potential way of life. For Matta, the analysis of chaos, both interior and exterior, forms a necessary and imminent revolution that may possibly transform that considered as real..."  María Berrios, "Humanized Architectures: Matta, Architect," in Matta: Centenario 11.11.11 (exhibition catalogue), Centro Cultural Palacio La Moneda, Santiago de Chile, 2011, p. 193
