This striking engraving shows a Plains Indian encampment at the foot of the Rocky Mountains, where Bierstadt traveled in 1859.  Smillie was an esteemed engraver and accomplished artist, and it took him nearly three years to craft and publish the magnificent print as he labored under Bierstadt's close observation.
