Marianne Ostier spent a career in jewelry attempting to create designs that are at once timeless reflections of mid-century modern glamour while also appealing to today’s collectors. A trained painter and sculptor who attended the Vienna Academy of Arts and Crafts, Ostier considered the process of designing and wearing jewelry two distinct art forms. In a 1969 Women’s Wear Daily article the designer described her jewelry as being, ‘modern in feeling but retaining a precious look.’ That ethos is evident in the jewels that grace these pages. From the superb ‘Galaxy’ brooch, whose diamonds give off a celestial glow, to the sinuous diamond ‘Doubleweave’ bracelet, Ostier has the ability to give life to her jewels and enthuse and intrigue both the wearer and the observer.
