拍品資料及來源

The ancient silver coin is a tetradrachm of Arsinoe II (b. 316 B.C.), Queen of Thrace, Anatolia, Macedonia, and later Egypt. Arsinoe was given the extraordinary title "King of Upper and Lower Egypt", giving her the status of pharaoh. Arsinoe appears to have received a rigorous education and was a patron of scholars. She was also a fierce competitor, and according to the ancient Greek poet Posidippus, she was the winner of three chariot races at the 272 B.C. Olympic Games.
