the grey marble top above the curved front opening with two drawers, the handles issued from the framings; stamped I. DUBOIS and JME under the marble top; (regilt)
Condition
The photograph is quite accurate. The painted decoration is flackering, especially on the sides and on the legs; there are also several chips with losses especially on the legs. The black varnish of the legs is probably later. a few minor horizontal shrinkage cracks on the lateral side. As said, the gilt-bronze mounts were regilt; the gilding is now quite tarnished in places. two small elements of veneer are missing inside the drawers. Beautiful color of the marble top in good condition. Very nice gilt-bronze mounts. The commode would benefit from a global restoration to enhance the beauty of its decoration. Please ask the department for the contact details of a profesional restorer for lacquers.
