Condition
The photograph is quite accurate. Inevitable stains, scratches, small chips and marks throughout the mahogany veneer due to age and use. Three small pieces of veneer are detached (but present) on the plinth and a last one is missing. The plinth with traces of humidity. Beautiful bronze mounts are partly tarnished (such as the three figures of Cupid and the sphinges on the plinth) and would benefit from a slight cleaning. The female heads on top are wonderfully chased, as well as the ornaments on pilasters. The vases need to be refixed properly (the small mahogany bases just underneath the vases possibly of later date). The former fixations of the bed (under the mattress) replaced by metal squares. Impressive and beautiful bed which would need a global restoration. Mattress size : 74 3/4 in. by 51 1/4 in. (190 x 130 cm).
