Condition

This work is in very good condition overall. A light layer of dust has adhered to the surface and the crevices of the figure. Very close inspection reveals some minute media accretions scattered in isolated places throughout. There is some fraying to the edges of the figure, which is in keeping with the artist's choice of media. Extremely close inspection reveals some fine hairline cracks to the rocks, some with minute associated losses. Further inspection of the smallest rock reveals a ½ dent to the left hand edge with some fine associated cracks. Under ultraviolet light inspection there is no evidence of restoration.
In response to your inquiry, we are pleased to provide you with a general report of the condition of the property described above. Since we are not professional conservators or restorers, we urge you to consult with a restorer or conservator of your choice who will be better able to provide a detailed, professional report. Prospective buyers should inspect each lot to satisfy themselves as to condition and must understand that any statement made by Sotheby's is merely a subjective qualified opinion.
NOTWITHSTANDING THIS REPORT OR ANY DISCUSSIONS CONCERNING CONDITION OF A LOT, ALL LOTS ARE OFFERED AND SOLD "AS IS" IN ACCORDANCE WITH THE CONDITIONS OF SALE PRINTED IN THE CATALOGUE.

"I try to look at the things as if I had never seen them before, as if I were a Martian and didn't know what they were for, had no idea of the function of the things, was only interested in the structure of it. The minute you give a name to a thing, you cloud or you hide the innocent vision." Claes Oldenburg
