Condition

This work is in very good condition overall. The canvas is unlined and the Masonite collage component appears stable. There is evidence of very minor wear and handling to the edges of the canvas and Masonite, resulting in minor pinpoint losses to the perimeter of the canvas and Masonite as well as a 1/8 inch loss to the Masonite at the lower left corner. There is evidence of very light surface soiling and a few, scattered unobtrusive pinpoint surface accretions particularly noticeable on the figure's shirt. Only visible under very close inspection and raking light, there is evidence of some very minor, unobtrusive, stable pigment craquelure. Under Ultraviolet light inspection, there are a few, very minor areas in the figure's shirt which fluoresce darkly. Framed.

"I had wanted to make some paintings that dealt with actual physical space, with real three dimensional space, but I found that the combination of the two flat surfaces produced this incredible effect of projections so I stayed with that." Mel Ramos
