One of our priority populations is mothers with children. Proceeds from the sale of this work of art by the artist, Lynda Benglis, will benefit young families in our treatment programs.
Mothers battling drug and alcohol addiction often face a tough choice: taking care of themselves or taking care of their children. At Odyssey House, mothers don’t have to make that choice, because pregnant women and parents with children can stay together, helping to build stronger families. We help mothers learn how to break the cycle of substance abuse and create nurturing homes for their children.
Our Family Center of Excellence located at the newly renovated George Rosenfeld Center for Recovery on Wards Island in Upper Manhattan, provides a bright, safe and supportive environment for mothers to overcome substance abuse and learn new life skills—from managing emotional stress to developing better parenting skills.
Odyssey House’s Family Center provides on-site daycare, licensed by the New York City Department of Health and Mental Hygiene. Additionally, our Early Head Start pre-school program can help children stay on track while parents get their own lives back on track.
Women with children in the Family Center is only one of the special populations we serve. We also provide individualized intensive residential and outpatient treatment for transitional age youth, adult men and women, and senior citizens. For each of these populations we offer a range of behavioral health services including: medication assisted treatment, overdose prevention training, education and vocational resources, mental health, medical and dental care, and housing support.
But our support for mothers, fathers, and single adults doesn’t stop when they leave residential or outpatient services. Once they complete our programs, we help them find transitional or permanent housing. And for people with mental health disorders we provide supported housing and case management services to help them live independently in the community.
Individuals and families in recovery can always depend on Odyssey House for peer-group support and outpatient services to help them maintain a healthy life for themselves and their family—without drugs or alcohol.
