Condition

This work is in very good condition overall. There is slight bowing to the support structure of the lead mounted to panel, inherent artist's working method and chosen medium. There is evidence of wear and handling along the edges and corners, with associated minor abrasions along the bottom edge. There is evidence of drip accretions scattered throughout the lower quadrant. Upon close inspection, there is evidence of two minor 1/2 in. dents near the bottom center edge region with associated minor losses. Unframed.
In response to your inquiry, we are pleased to provide you with a general report of the condition of the property described above. Since we are not professional conservators or restorers, we urge you to consult with a restorer or conservator of your choice who will be better able to provide a detailed, professional report. Prospective buyers should inspect each lot to satisfy themselves as to condition and must understand that any statement made by Sotheby's is merely a subjective qualified opinion.
NOTWITHSTANDING THIS REPORT OR ANY DISCUSSIONS CONCERNING CONDITION OF A LOT, ALL LOTS ARE OFFERED AND SOLD "AS IS" IN ACCORDANCE WITH THE CONDITIONS OF SALE PRINTED IN THE CATALOGUE.

"I like very much the qualities of lead—the surface, the heaviness. Some of the paintings were completely painted, and you only experience the lead at the edges; this gives the painting a very heavy feeling—it gives the color a different density and weight. I like to react on things; with the normal canvas you often have to kill the ground, give it something to react against. With the metals you already have something—its scratches, scrapes."
