Condition

This work is in very good and sound condition overall. The scattered signs of wear, such as scratches, rust, and paint losses, are inherent to the nature of the found materials and the artist's process. The joins and welds all appear to be sound and secure. Under very close inspection, one element near the center appears to have previously detached. As is to be expected in a work of this construction, the work is slightly dusty overall, primarily in the deepest folds and crevices. The colors are bright and fresh.
In response to your inquiry, we are pleased to provide you with a general report of the condition of the property described above. Since we are not professional conservators or restorers, we urge you to consult with a restorer or conservator of your choice who will be better able to provide a detailed, professional report. Prospective buyers should inspect each lot to satisfy themselves as to condition and must understand that any statement made by Sotheby's is merely a subjective qualified opinion.
NOTWITHSTANDING THIS REPORT OR ANY DISCUSSIONS CONCERNING CONDITION OF A LOT, ALL LOTS ARE OFFERED AND SOLD "AS IS" IN ACCORDANCE WITH THE CONDITIONS OF SALE PRINTED IN THE CATALOGUE.

"The volume has a lot to do with the fit. The fit of a lot of pieces has a great deal to do with the volume in this particular case because there's air between it. But I think that because of the kind of material it is, and it was worked at different ways at different stages, that in the build-up and assembly of such things a presence occurs. It's a presence which is met also by the balance and the rhythm of the balances and the fit."
