Condition

The colours are fairly accurate in the printed catalogue illustration although the overall tonality is slightly softer and is does not accurately convey the 3-dimensional aspect in the original work. Irregularities on the surface of the work are inherent to the artist technique. There is a thin layer of dust in the creases. Wear marks and a few losses are visible on the lower edge of the work mostly located on the center and on the left side and some of which has carefully been restored.

Larry Rivers is one of the most exuberant painters of the New York school. He began his career in the inter-war period and went on to create an impressive body of striking artworks. Although he influenced many American painters, Larry Rivers has for a while remained little known in France. Accused of “painting-report”, River’s art splits up, overlaps and erases the image. Going against the stream of Pollock’s and de Kooning’s abstract expressionism, Rivers, which talent is now widely acknowledged, built his work around pop imagery.
