Filippo Palizzi is considered as the first XIXth century neapolitan animal painter. He visited France in 1844 and 1863, which allowed him to meet with the Barbizon painters and the study of nature. The picture presented here shows a hunter and his dog by the Bolsena lake. Located in the North of the region of Viterbo, this lake is said to be the largest volcanic lake in Europe.
