Condition
The artist's sheet is laid down on board, the edges of which are in turn attached to a mount. There is a small loss in the sheet in the extreme upper right corner, and the board is slightly undulated. There is a small spot of paint flaking in the lower right quadrant. Ultra-violet light reveals scattered strokes of retouching, notably in the lower third of the composition and intermittently along the edges; these also appear to be unvarnished and are visible to the naked eye under raking light. The colours in reality are subtler and less yellow than in the catalogue illustration.
