Good condition overall. Wear consistent with age and use within the culture. As visible in the catalogue one part of the base is partially missing. Thick, encusted patina.

Tandis que le style superbement abouti dans la dynamique des volumes et l'individualité de l'enfant permet de situer son origine dans la région sud des falaises de Bandiagara, la patine - presque fossilisée - atteste sa très grande ancienneté. Signe de protection et de bienveillance, la pose de la mère – main posée sur la fontanelle de l’enfant - et sa profonde patine permettent d'interpréter cette très belle maternité comme une figure d'autel, probablement familial (vageu).
