"Calouste Gulbenkian travelled the Caucasus in 1894, hoping to understand why Caucasian rugs are made either long or squarish. The squarish measure of this Bordjalou relates to the proportion of 1 : 1⁄10 3x3x13; ultimately indicating  knowledge of and preoccupation with the squaring of the circle." EH
