Condition

Pile variable, approximately 2 mm in depth or with knot heads just appearing in the lowest areas and with 7-8mm of pile in the fuller areas, eg the lower half of the field. Ends are taped on teh reverse to seecure and warps trimmed, side cords appear to have had some minor restorations. Good drawing, eg scroll borders nicely articulated and good 'presence'. A good old example of the genre.

"Calouste Gulbenkian travelled the Caucasus in 1894, hoping to understand why Caucasian rugs are made either long or squarish. The squarish measure of this Bordjalou relates to the proportion of 1 : 1⁄10 3x3x13; ultimately indicating  knowledge of and preoccupation with the squaring of the circle."
