Condition

The paperboard appears toned overall and there appears to be mat burn along the extreme edges. There are a few scattered pindots of foxing and a surface scuff in the lower center. There are glue remnants along the upper edge beneath the mat.

The commentary that accompanies these drawings in the Frederic Remington online catalogue raisonné states: "Remington began the illustrations for Powhatan Clarke's article, 'The Military Riding-School of Germany,' in 1891 when Clarke was transferred to Germany. While there Clarke sent Remington photos and books on the German military that Remington referred to when making his drawings. In an October 14, 1891 letter to Clarke, Remington wrote, 'I have finished the drawings on the German Cav. School'...They were subsequently published in Harper's Weekly on November 14, 1891" (remington.centerofthewest.org).
