The canvas is lined, which is providing a stable structural support. There is very fine craquelure to localised areas of the horses' heads but this is only visible upon very close inspection.

There are minor flecked retouchings to the horses' heads. There is possible a small repaired tear below the black horse's ear.
The picture is contained in a simple wooden and plaster-moulded frame with painted spandrels.
