A detailed engraving after one of the original frescos commemorating the Great Siege of Malta of 1565, painted by Matteo Perez D’Aleccio (1547-1616), that decorated the walls of newly erected Valletta after it was built in 1571. It shows the last day of the campaign in which the Knights of Malta assisted by the newly arrived Spanish relief forces, under the command of the Viceroy of Sicily, were finally victorious over the besieging Ottoman army.
