A good example of Audubon’s famous large-format illustration. It was previously supposed that this showed a juvenile specimen of Haliaeetus leucocephalus alascanus (the northern bald eagle), but it has recently been argued that it was a distinct, now extinct, species of large eagle (see Scott Maruna, "Substantiating Audubon’s Washington Eagle" in The Ohio Cardinal, volume 29, number 3, 2006).
