43 albumen prints (from 214 x 159mm. to 240 x 322mm., or the reverse), 12 with "Schulze/Phot./Batavia" ink stamp to verso, 1 with partial ink stamp of "G.R. Lambert & Co., Singapore", on verso, one mounted on thick card, otherwise loose, minor creasing or fading, a few slight tears

Captain Fedor Schulze (1836-1908) was a German military officer who served with distinction in the Dutch forces and settled in Batavia where he became a naturalised Dutchman. Shulze arrived in South East Asia in 1858 and later retired from the military, after which he started as a publisher and photographer.  The collection includes 24 views and 19 portraits of Java and Bangkok.
