拍品資料及來源

Humblot (1852-1914), a French naturalist and botanical collector, embarked on a research trip to Madagascar in 1878. In 1884 he arrived in the Comoros as part of a geographical survey, and in 1885 he procured the signature of a treaty with the Sultan of Bambao, thus establishing a basis for a "Grande Comore protectorate". From 1889 to 1896, he held the title of Résident. The photographs depict: Sultan Said Ali Bin Said Omar of Bambao (c.1856-1917) with his ministers; the sultan with his soldiers and French officers and marines; Humblot's camp; Comoros soldiers with their rifles; French marines with 'rebel soldiers'; a woman from Madagascar; and women from Mayotte.
