拍品資料及來源

A rare printed chart, one of the few taken directly from Portuguese sources. Teixeira was the most prolific Portuguese mapmaker of the seventeenth-century. He prepared this chart in manuscript form, for the benefit of Portuguese trading vessels. This version was later printed by Melchisedech Thevenot, with another chart, in his "Relations De Divers Voyages Curieux...". The inset plans of harbours along the left side of the maps show "Môbaça" (Mombasa), "Mosanbique" (Mozambique), "Sofala" (Beira), and "Ilha De Sacatora" (Island of Sacatora), all of which were important Portuguese and Arab trading posts.
