An important collection of Arabic proverbs, with English translations and commentary. Burckhardt (1784-1817) was a Swiss orientalist who travelled widely in the Middle-East and North Africa. The work was published posthumously and edited by William Ousley, who had also edited the author's Travels in Arabia.
