Condition

Overall very good condition. This work has been examined and conditioned by a professional conservator specializing in enamel conservation. This extraordinary object was executed with layer upon layer of enamel, creating a highly complex and nuanced color palette, highlighting the firm’s technical skill, ingenuity, and impeccable artistry. The frog, which is perched on a bed of lily pads and wild mushrooms, is hinged on the reverse to open and function as a stamp box. The enameled surfaces with some minor irregularities throughout inherent in the making and not visually detractive. With some scattered small and minor losses to the enamel throughout, consistent with age and gentle handling and not at all visually detractive. The edges of the upper and lower portions of the frog’s body that comprise the stamp compartment with some minor wear. The gilt underside of the box appears to have been sensitively stabilized at some point in the history of the piece, showing evidence of an epoxy-lacquer application along the juncture line of the box and base plate. An incredibly dynamic and sculptural work displaying the highest artistry of the firm’s work in enamel. A very jewel-like and delectable object showing great charm.
