Condition

Painting The canvas has been lined. There is a pattern of craquelure throughout, as visible in the illustration. However, this appears to be stable. Inspection under ultra-violet light reveals a circular area and various strokes of retouching in the upper left corner addressing restoration. Other isolated, minor spots of cosmetic retouching are also visible. Otherwise, this work presents well and is ready to hang. Presented in an ornate, decorative gilt frame with some losses. Tazze Generally in very good condition and ready to place. With a few very minor chips to edges of onyx bowls and plinth bases.

The two gilt bronze and white onyx tazze are illustrated in the painting by Zimmemann, which depicts King Ludwig II’s Red Room in his Munich Palace. Known as the Residenz, this was the former royal palace of the Wittelsbach monarchs of Bavaria. First erected in 1385, the current building is from the time of King Ludwig I of Bavaria (1825–1848).
