FIRST EDITION. These astronomical tables, computing the positions of the sun, moon and planets in relation to the fixed stars, were originally composed by the Cordoban astronomer al-Zarqali (c. 1029-c. 1087) and revised two hundred years later on the order of Alfonso X, 'el Sabio', and became known as the Alfonsine Tables. The Latin version was made from a Spanish version, now lost.

For the third edition, see lot 9.
