“Sems and Dou were surveyors in Leiden. Dou was also well known to be a skilled cartographer… This book and its companion (Von dem gebrauch der geometrischen instrumenten, 1616) form a single work on the theory and practice of surveying [see following lot 602]. The two were issued separately, but simultaneously, and are quite often found bound together.” (Tomash & Williams).
