FIRST EDITION IN ENGLISH, 8vo (144 x 90mm.), 10 engraved plates (one, with volvelle, folding), engraved illustrations in text, contemporary calf, lacks portrait, D4 (p.39) and D8 repaired at foot (first slightly cropped touching letters), plate with volvelle worn at edge, some staining (mainly plates), slight soiling, binding slightly worn, rebacked, new endleaves

Published originally in 1631 as Arithmeticae in numeris et speciebus institutio (see lot 477), and latterly under the title Clavis mathematicae (lot 486), this is the first English edition. There are a few contemporary notes in this copy at the end of the text, before the plates.
