The male figure in his portrait has previously been mistakenly identified as both Prince Konovnitsin and Prince Bariatinsky. However, he has now been recognised as Admiral Nicolay Semenovich Mordvinov. He stands amongst his family, wearing the sash and star of the Order of Alexander Nevsky and the badge of the Order of Saint Anne.
Another version of this composition was sold at Sotheby's, London, 27 May 2004, lot 64.

With are very grateful to Mr Kibovsky for contacting Sotheby's with this information.
