Original canvas. There are frame abrasions along the edges. There are areas of paint loss, in particular to the background along the lower right edge, between the boy's legs, below the hem of the boy's coat on the left-hand side and toward the lower edge of the left ski pole. There is craquelure in places, in particular to the background in the upper left quadrant and a fine line of craquelure along the middle-right edge. There are minor abrasions to the boy's right collar, which have resulted in some paint loss. There are some further cracks and flecks of paint loss elsewhere. There is a diagonal scratch to the right of the boy's head. The surface is covered in a layer of dirt with spots of dirt in places. Inspection under UV light reveals some minor retouching to the upper left corner and to the lower right corner, as well as uneven varnish. Held in a gold painted wooden frame. Unexamined out of frame.
