signed in Cyrillic and dated '88' l.l.; further signed and titled in Cyrillic and dated '1988' on the reversemixed media on canvas Growing up in post-war Leningrad surrounded by ruins and corroded churches, Gleb Bogomolov developed a special affection for Christian-Byzantine art. Fascinated by the colors, mosaics and mysteries of this period and genre, his semi-religious, semi-architectural paintings are similarly multilayered and complex with compositions that often feature crosses, arcs, mandalas, pillars and columns. He helped organize the first non-conformist exhibition at the Ivan Gaza Culture Palace in Leningrad in December 1974.

Condition

Original canvas which is slack on the stretcher and buckling in places. There are minor abrasions. Otherwise in overall good condition, clean and ready to hang. Held in a simple black wooden frame. Unexamined out of frame.
