Lev Nusberg founded the ‘Dvizhenie’ (‘Movement’) group in 1962, which counted among its members a number of architects and artists, including Francisco Infante.
He is often termed a ‘kinetic artist’ which is perhaps best expressed in his own words: 'I want to work with electromagnetic fields, with pulsating plasma blobs in space, with the movement of gases and liquids, with glass and all kinds of optical effects, with the change of temperature and different smells and, of course, with the music.'
In 1976 he emigrated to Germany and took part in a number of exhibitions in Western Europe. Four years later he moved to the United States. Original works by Nusberg appear very rarely on the market; the only other Nusberg offered at Sotheby’s also came from the Bar-Gera collection.
