There is an example bearing similar bands of hexagonal small medallions with bold bands of ground colours published in Petsopoulos (1979) pp. 132 & 133, pl. 158. The Petsopolous example lacks the vibrant range of colours seen here.
Petsopoulos (1979): Petsopoulos, Y., Kilims The Art of Tapestry Weavings in Anatolia, the Caucasus and Persia, London, 1979, pp. 132 & 133, pl. 158.
Overall dimensions, including mount; 164cm across the top, 162cm across the bottom, 407cm the left hand side, 405cm the right hand side.
Professionally mounted onto cotton. The upper section with remains of original border extending to the left hand corner, the bottom end also with remnants. The right hand edge with the original inner guard and is visible from image. Browns heavily oxidised, in some areas, notably the blue band to the lower middle where they have almost completely eroded. This is commensurate with the age of the work. There are losses in these areas likely as a result of initial oxidisation. Some of these areas have been replaced, see the upper right hand side of the blue band for example of replaced browns, also upper right hand side of green band. The lighter areas of ivory in the image are cotton, mostly found in the upper green band, these are possibly later. Small repairs and conservation throughout, first hand inspection is advised. This is in good condition for age and is a bold and enigmatic design
