Condition

Overall measurements: 167cm across the top, 172cm across the bottom, 292cm the left hand side, 291cm the right hand side. 295cm vertically through the middle. Pile 2mm down to foundation in spot areas, notably in oxidised browns. The left hand border has extensive re-woven areas of the outer guard and partway into the blue border itself. These are visible as areas of different colours in the image, photographs can be requested from the department. Some evidence of minor old moth damage in upper border. Two or three small re-weaves noted, including one at the top of the right hand inner guard, and some restorations to the end guards. Repaired or replaced fringing. Typical Karabagh palette which would probably brighten with a professional clean. Otherwise can be used as it presently is.

See Schurmann (1990), pp. 120 & 121, pl. 32 for an example of this type of Karabagh rug, the example with only one column of rhomb medallions and differing border design but a highly comparable colour palette of which Schurmann states 'The harmony of colours in this rug is deserving of particular attention.'
