Each amethyst and diamond buttons set with a cabochon amethyst highlighted with circular- and single-cut diamonds, Austro-Hungarian assay mark for gold and maker's mark, fitted case stamped F. Halder, and the buttons set with a cabochon carbuncle garnets, fitted case stamped Mellerio.

The amethyst and diamond buttons were given by Prince Elie de Bourbon-Parme (1880-1959) to his wife, Archduchess Marie Anne of Austria (1882-1940), on the occasion of the birth of their son, Robert, in 1909.

Condition

Four amethyst and diamond buttons: Austro-Hungarian assay mark for 14 carat gold and partial maker's mark. The amethysts with faceted pavillion and cabochon crown, well matched in colour, some with typical inclusions, some abrasions and scratches. Diamonds bright and lively. Scratches and tarnish to the metal consistent with age and normal use. Accompanied by seven fittings. Wearable as cufflinks. Total gross weight approximately 7 grams. Seven fittings. Fitted case stamped F HALDER JUWELIER I REITSCHULWEG 4 WIEN. The carbuncle garnet measuring approximately 24.16 x 24.24 x 6.47mm and 24.16 x 24.27 x 6.59mm respectively, with typical inclusions, visible under close inspection, minor surface abrasions. Scratches to the metal consistent with normal use. In very good condition. Total gross weight approximately 29 grams. Fitted case stamped MELLERIO 9 RUE DE LA PAIX 9 PARIS.
