PROPERTY FROM THE LATE LUDWIG THEODOR VON RAUTENSTRAUCH COLLECTION
Joseph Brems (1859-1912), was noted for his modern interpretation of ancient craftsmanship. He worked extensively for the Cathedral of Trier, one of the three electoral archbishoprics, whose treasury had been extensively depleted during the French Revolution. Anna Maria Joest (1850-1903), who was born in Cologne, came from a wealthy merchant family. She married Eugen Rautenstrauch (1842-1900) who continued her father’s business of importing animal skins. The Rautenstrauch’s were great collectors themselves and the Rautenstrauch-Joest museum in Cologne houses the ethnological collection of William Joest, Adele’s brother.
