FLEMISH SCHOOL, 16TH CENTURY | The Last Supper

The panel is cradled, very slightly bowed, and stable. The paint surface is clean, and the varnish clear and even. There is tenting throughout, which has started to lift, for example in the head of the man in green (upper left), and in the table cloth (lower centre) - these areas would benefit from stabilisation. There has been flaking in the past, for example in the architecture (upper left), and in the white cloth of the man in orange (lower left). A damage with associated paint loss is visible, upper right. Inspection under ultraviolet light reveals retouching to the aforementioned damage, as well as along a repaired split (upper left) measuring approx. 10 cm., and small spots and lines throughout, with more concentrated areas in the shadows, lower left and lower centre.
