描述

  • The Three Marys
  • with painted letters to the bases, inscribed: ST MARIA SALOM. and: ST MAR [...] GDAL [...] and, partially legible: ST M [...] and further inscribed: Maria Magdalena and: Maria Cleophas and: Maria Salome in pencil to the reverse
  • gilt and polychromed wood, with remnants of gilt copper aureoles
  • 58cm., 22 7/8 in. each

Condition

There is stable splitting to the wood, consistent with the material, including some slightly open but stable splits, including to the tops of the heads. There is minor evidence of past worming, in particular to the undersides and backs of the statues, and to the proper right hand of Mary Salome. The bottom of the bases and the inscriptions at the front are later. There are losses to the polychromy throughout, in particular to the faces. The polychromy has probably been refreshed in areas. All three Marys would have had an aureole, these are largely lost. Otherwise the condition is stable.
