in a bright ebonised case with square tapered legs, the seven and a half octave keyboard, 92 keys, FFF to c5 with synthetic naturals and ebony accidentals, the lowest two naturals overlaid with black plastic, the central lyre supporting three pedals controlling una corda, sostenuto and damper lift, with shaped music desk, the metal frame cast with the inscription Bösendorfer, Wein, the soundboard inscribed Austria and with a facsimile Bösendorfer signature and the serial number 31541, the fallboard interior inset with Bösendorfer in brass letters

Made in Vienna for the Paris market, this Bösendorfer piano had pride of place in the Rostropovich Paris apartment and on many occasions was played by friends and fellow musicians, amongst others, Henri Dutilleux, Alfred Schnittke and Arthur Rubinstein.
