Condition

The surface is fairly eroded and slightly powdery at some places, probably due to long outside exposure. The capital appears to have been cleaned with dark remnants of dirt (pollution) at several places. Otherwise, very good carving of the figures with eyes and curls of Christ's hair deeply drilled. Very narrative scene, with a figure of doctors visible on both sides.

拍品資料及來源

The biodetritic type limestone of the present capital comes from the Upper Jurassic grounds. It could have been extracted from quarries in the Eastern Paris basin, near the Meuse Valley, around Commercy, and in the South of Verdun. Stylistically, this capital is remarquable for the fine modelling of the drapery and the pronounced drilled eyes.
