The sitters are the children of Lord George Cavendish, created 1st Earl of Burlington in 1831 and his wife Lady Elizabeth Compton, daughter and heir of the 7th Earl of Northampton.
Lady Anne married Lord Charles Fitzroy, younger son of the 4th Duke of Grafton in 1825, while Lord Henry married firstly in 1811, Sarah Fawkener, secondly in 1819, Frances Susan Howard, Lampton, and thirdly in 1873 Susanna Byrlie.
