In good order. To the right of the infant's head, the dark pigment of the background has crazed slightly.

Of Irish extraction, Mary Morton was born in Bordeaux. In 1802 she married John Archer Morton (1772-1840), an American. They lived outside Bordeaux in a house called 'Virginia', named after the state of his birth.

A pendent to this miniature, showing the couple's other two children, was sold at Christie's, London, 20 March 1990, lot 66.
