While still a young photographer, Kertész was invited by the magazine Le Sourire to produce nude photographs during the early 1930s.
« I bought two distorting mirrors on the flee market – the kind of ones you would find on an amusement park...certain images looked like sculptures while others were grotesques and scarry »
The lines in the image is similar to the ones of propagation of waves, which remainds us of the scientific esthetic of the work of Jean Painlevé and explains certainly why he was sensitive to this particular image from the distortions series.© Estate of André Kertész
